Myers Riley Motorsports Gains Ground in Bob Akin Award Fight with Eighth-Place Finish at CTMP

Myers Riley Motorsports earned an eighth-place GTD finish in Sunday’s Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, collecting another valuable haul of points in the Bob Akin Award championship.

Starting from twelth in the No. 16 Ford Mustang GT3, Sheena Monk delivered a composed opening stint, maintaining a competitive pace and keeping the team firmly in contention throughout the first half of the two-hour, 40-minute race.

Felipe Fraga took over during a full-course caution, with the team making setup adjustments during the driver change in an effort to improve the Mustang’s balance. Fraga returned to pit lane under the same caution period for an additional change, allowing the No. 16 to remain on the lead lap despite the extra stop.

Once racing resumed, Fraga began moving forward through the GTD field, climbing as high as seventh and remaining in the thick of the battle through the closing stages. The Myers Riley Motorsports entry ultimately crossed the finish line in eighth place.

The result allowed Monk and the team to continue inching away in the Bob Akin Award championship as the season enters its final stretch.

“Overall, it was an okay race,” said Fraga. “I felt we could have improved a little more and finished higher, so I’m not completely happy, but it is what it is. We finished eighth and still scored good points toward the Bob Akin Award and the invitation to Le Mans. We have a couple of races remaining, and we need to keep pushing and working hard for maximum points.”

“Overall, it wasn’t a bad race,” said Monk. “We were hoping to beat our Bronze competitors, and we were right there with them. I feel like we’re getting closer, and in the upcoming races, I think we’ll be able to put together some strong results, get ahead of them and continue advancing in the Akin Championship.

“It was an okay weekend overall. We’ve had a little more luck in the sprint races this season, so hopefully we can turn our endurance-race fortunes around at Road America.”

Myers Riley Motorsports will return to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition at Road America on July 30 to August 2nd.
