Myers Riley Motorsports brought home an eighth-place finish in Sunday’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Laguna Seca, closing out the Western Swing.
Starting from 11th on the grid, Sheena Monk delivered a strong opening stint in the No. 16 Bud Moore Ford Mustang GT3, making up three positions at the start and quickly moving the team into contention. Monk settled into a consistent rhythm, holding her position under pressure before handing the car over to Felipe Fraga.
“The start went really well,” said Monk. “I was able to take advantage of some cars stacking up, use the power of the Mustang GT3 to get around, and find myself in a comfortable spot. I felt some cars challenging from behind, but I was still able to hold the positions that I made up. I handed the car over to Felipe, and I think we just struggled a little bit in the final phases of the race. It’s something we need to take a look back at. Overall, we’re starting to execute a lot better, and I’m looking forward to Watkins Glen.”
Fraga continued the charge during the second half of the race, running inside the top six as the team pushed for a stronger result. However, as the race unfolded, the No. 16 ultimately settled into eighth, the best result available on the day.
“Overall, it was a tough event for us,” said Fraga. “Sheena did a really strong job at the start and put us in a good position, and from there we were able to run inside the top six for part of the race. In the end, we just didn’t quite have enough to stay there, but the team executed well and we brought home points. We’ll take what we learned, keep working, and shift our focus to ther rest of the season.”
While the final result did not fully reflect the team’s early race progress, the weekend marked another step forward in execution for Myers Riley Motorsports as the program continues to build with the Ford Mustang GT3 Evo.
Myers Riley Motorsports will return to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition at Watkins Glen International.
